My Story
Greetings internet traveller!
Welcome to the home of Brett Ross Photography.
We all get that question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The answer for most of us changes as we get older, but the one common theme that mine had, was that I really didn’t want to be stuck in the corporate world. I wanted some freedom, and to be able to experience new things.
I eventually studied video and was an editor for a sports and corporate production company for 2 years before I got my first stills camera.
It was all downhill from there. I loved landscape and wildlife photography, but because I am a geek, I wanted to learn more about lighting and funky camera techniques, which then got me into portrait photography and lighting the human form.
I started to mix the portrait photography with the landscape photography and now 90% of my work draws inspiration from a location that I want to shoot in, or just an environment that I enjoy, like the beach.
I am a geek at heart and I love to learn, which has the side effect of being a bit of a jack of all trades. I don’t like to get stuck on one photography genre, because there are too many interesting opportunities that being diverse can open me up to.
I’m originally from Durban, South Africa and now live in the heart of Sydney.
